new (er…old) s/p/o/o/n!

i was reminded of peter happel christian a couple days ago as i proceeded to purchase another fine spoon album. “we’re all spoon people” he’d say. thanks to peter for relinquishing both spoon and low and some creative insight to the clouds above.

telephono/soft effects, both originally released on matador in 96-97 (respectively) are spoon’s first. album and ep shortly to follow. both are removed from the more mature spoon of today, yet both harbor the spoon genius which soon follows. its very apparent that these albums were the growth of spoon and what would serve as the basis for the more readily available “girls can tell” and of course “kill the moonlight”. telephono is especially raw, unpolished (in a great gritty way) and much more similar to their live performance where spontaneity and feedback can change the course of the show. i kept thinking how great it would have been to see these guys kicking over their drums in that little tiny bar around the corner! rock on, get this album if you know. cheers -c
